In Berks County, we have the applications on line in English & Spanish on our county website.
Our IS Dept. set it up on our website.
We also accept applications in person.
At our County jail , we take applications virtually through Microsoft TEAMS & occasionally in person.
We require the out of custody applicants to provide us with income verification.
We have the out of custody applicants fax us the income verification.
Our county IS Dept. advised us not to have the applicants e-mail us since e-mail is not secure.

Hello.  We are revising our public defender application process.  Are there any counties that permit the applicants to be submitted completely electronically?  If so, what programs/process do you use?  How do you deal with incarcerated clients (tablets in the county jail? Etc) How do you accommodate defendants who may not know and understand English or have learning/reading disabilities that may prevent them from applying for representation electronically?
